From the 1874 Mitchell Atlas of the World, this is the cover leaf and modest proclamations thereon.
Samuel Augustus Mitchell was an America geographer and cartographer. Born in Connecticut, he first worked as a teacher. From there, he began publishing geography textbooks and maps. After noticing the inadequacies of his time's geographical resources available to educators, he founded a mapping company in Philadelphia. There, he worked with his son to publish a variety of geographical genres, including maps, travel guides, and textbooks.
